Citizens Police Academy

The Des Peres Department of Public Safety will again join Town and Country, Creve Coeur, Chesterfield, Ladue, Olivette, Frontenac, and Kirkwood Police Departments to present the Citizens Police Academy. The Academy will give citizens in our communities the opportunity to learn about law enforcement through practical training and exercises. The goal of the academy is to promote understanding between the residents and its police officers regarding their respective needs and problems. By promoting this relationship citizens and police can work together to make the entire community a safer place to live.

Topics covered in the Academy will include and is not limited to:

  • Constitutional and criminal law
  • Use of force
  • Criminal Investigations 
  • Traffic safety
  • DWI enforcement

Participants will also have the opportunity to fire a department issued firearm under the close supervision of a Range Training Officer. Participants will also experience real life, role play scenarios.

CITIZENS POLICE ACADEMY – Class #24

All classes begin at 7:00 PM, unless otherwise noted: 

  • Week 1: March 1st - Frontenac (10555 Clayton Road) - Introductions and Welcome 
  • Week 2: March 8th - Creve Coeur PD (350 N Ballas Road) - Policing and the Community's Role 
  • Week 3: March 15th - The Lodge Des Peres (1050 Des Peres Road) - Criminal Investigations 
  • Week 4: March 22nd - Chesterfield (690 Chesterfield Parkway W) - Constitutional & Criminal Law 
  • Week 5: March 29th – Town and Country (13525 Clayton Road) - Traffic Safety/DWI Enforcement 
  • Week 6: April 12th – Kirkwood PD (131 W Madison Ave) - Use of Force and Challenges of Policing
  • Week 7: April 19th - Ladue High School (1201 S Warson Road) Firearms Safety and Police Technology 
  • Week 8: April 26th at 6:30PM - Kirkwood PD (131 W Madison Ave) - Firearms Range/Role Play
  • Week 9: May 3rd – Olivette (1140 Dielman Rd) - Summary and Graduation
